Blackfriars advice
We run an open door advice service on Monday to Thursday mornings between 10am and 12pm. The customer will be seen by an adviser who will establish whether we are able to give the customer advice to help them deal with the issues themselves, whether they need an appointment or whether they need to be recommended to another supporting service, if it is an area of work we are not able to help with.

If we identify that the client needs an appointment because the matter is more complicated, we will book them the best adviser depending on the problem. To arrange an appointment, ring the advice line or call in to the reception, Monday to Friday 10am-12pm & 2pm-4:30pm, or Wednesday evenings 5pm-7pm.

Case Study

Ms G bought a new gas cooker from a local shop. When it was unwrapped and about to be fitted, it was discovered that the door did not fit and could not shut, which meant that the oven could not be used. Ms G returned to the shop for either a new cooker or a refund. The shop owner made many promises to have the cooker delivered but after three months she had still not received a new one. She then wrote to the shop for a refund.

When her money was not refunded, she started proceedings for a small claims County Court but needed help with the forms which needed to be completed. We took the case on at this point and assisted her with completing the forms to make the claim. The shop did not defend the claim but, even after the client obtaining a County Court Judgement against them, they would still not refund the money. We assisted the client with applying to the Court for a third Party Debt Order which led to the client finally receiving her compensation and refund for the cooker as the money was paid direct from the shop owner’s bank account by order of the court.
